Alli's Biopsy Experience

Alli had a little procedure done on Tuesday to look at her GI track and see what is causing her tummy pain and potty problems...

This was our little girl before anything had happened, no, I didn't bring my camera ladies (I would have but I lost it) Ken took these on his phone and emailed them to me. She knew what was going to happen but no doctors or nurses had seen her yet so it hadn't sunk in yet.

Now this one was right after they had wheeled her out of the little room and into a room with lots of gadgets and all, she was getting a bit stressed out at this point. She hadn't had food or drink since about 11 pm the night before, and the poor little thing just needed her chocolate milk :) They had just given her a little thing of syrup that was going to make her a bit silly and then sleepy. They weren't even going to try to give her an IV until she fell asleep, I thought that was very thoughtful of them, since we've had to do plenty of IV's in a hysterical state of being. This was hard for mommy and daddy because this was the last time we saw our baby, and it was really difficult to see her being taken away like this.

The biopsy took maybe 20 minutes, very quick, the doctor came out with photos of her little insides and found that everything looked normal but her tummy was full of ulcers. That was sad to see. He said it was from the stress of not being able to live a normal kid life without the thought of having an accident at any time and the disappointment that it brought to us as her parents, and I just felt sick when I saw it all and heard it from him. When she would eat she would grab at her tummy every now and then and just complain about the pain, and now we know why. After they had made sure she was awake from the anesthesia they let her fall back asleep to take a nap. I didn't want her to wake up and me not be there by her side but she didn't remember being awake right after it all. So when we finally got to see her she was so out of it. You couldn't help but laugh and make a sad face at the same time. Her Pop was there and able to get a half smile out of her. When she looked around and saw the IV in her arm she kept asking about when they put that on her. A bit of time would go by and she would ask about what it was again, not being able to remember what we had just told her. At one point she said, "Mom look Pop has four eyes!" I wish we had a video camera. She just didn't sound like my baby girl. I asked her what her name was and birthday and then what 3 + 3+ 3 was and she said, "Nine, but Pop has four eyes." Funny girl. Eventually she had to go potty and this was the first time she stood, poor things knees were bent and just about hitting the floor but she insisted she was walking with her legs straight. Once she woke up a bit more we were able to leave the hospital and she wanted nothing to do with a wheelchair, she wanted to walk on her own, but as soon as we let go of her she was stumbling to the floor, Ken catching her each time, just in time. Crazy girl, it's like we had someone with a bit too much to drink on our hands.

I had found the bear she brought with her stuffed under her blanket, they had put a surgical mask on the little thing, very cute.

We are working on getting her ulcers healed, with three different types of medicine, and we will be waiting just about another week or so to get the results from the biopsy back in. More bowl training ahead, the doctor says it will take three to six months to correct it, so we will see, I need prayer for patience and follow through, this is something we want to correct as soon as possible. On a good note, I may be able to home school her this year because of it. We don't want her having to go to public school away from home for several hours before we have this problem corrected.

My favorite part..."nine, but pop has four eyes!" That's hilarious--still funny in the midst of lala land
